The movie “The Two Jakes” was a disappointing sequel to Chinatown, but there was nothing disappointing about the play of the two Jakes in leading East Grand Rapids to a shutout of Muskegon Reeths-Puffer Wednesday night at LC Walker Arena.
Jake Stewart had a goal and two assists and his partner, Jake Adams, also assisted on a pair of goals for the Pioneers. Tate Potteiger earned the shutout in the East goal, his second shutout in his last three starts. Mike Malewitz, Alex DelVecchio, Colin Stecco and Ben Forstner also scored for the Pioneers.
Malewitz got East on the board first when he one-timed a pass from Stecco. DelVecchio then extended the lead to 2-0 when he scored from Cooper Bell and Will Zinsser.
The score remained 2-0 until East opened the second period on a two-man advantage. Stewart finished off a pretty passing play from Forstner and Adams when he fired a one-timer into the Reeths-Puffer net from the right point. Stecco made it 4-0 later in the period when he scored a shorthanded goal assisted by Stewart and Adams.
In a penalty-filled third period, East capped the scoring on the power play, when Forstner finished off a goal set up by Malewitz and Stewart.
